Fitness and Osteogenesis Imperfecta Event

As someone who was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (O.I.), when I began my fitness journey, a short 8 years ago, I was in need of resources and guidance when it came to certain questions;

How does O.I. effect my ability to lift weights?

Are there certain foods I should be eating?

How far can I push myself?

There were so many questions beyond these.

I didn’t have anyone personally in my life that also had O.I., so my journey began on the internet. By this time, I assumed that it would be a cinch to get the answers to the questions I had.

Lo, behold, it was not.

This started my mission to not only learn what I could as I go through experimentation, but also I wanted to start building a network of resources and information that others with O.I. could utilize after me.

And I wanted them to find the information easily. And I wanted it to be useful and powerful!

I immediately wrote my book, “Disable Your Disability: Live the Healthy Life You Deserve!”, which is the first book to discuss the delicate relationship between fitness and Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

After the book was released, it was time to start bringing information to the community as well as bringing the community together in a new way.

I started a Facebook group specifically for fitness, nutrition, and wellness and it pertained to O.I.

I started to pour out video content on my YouTube Channel.

And I began finding ways to participate in live gatherings within the community.

Throughout the last few years, as I’ve grown personally and through my advocacy of O.I., I’ve learned that the best way to help my community is to be quick and efficient with what I can provide.

On Saturday, March 26, 2022 is the first of what is planned to be many online gatherings under the #OILife banner.

The #OILife Fitness Roundtable is the first peer-to-peer event for O.I.ers to share their experiences with fitness in a supportive, engaging, encouraging, and fun environment!

Launching this #OILife event series will play an important role within the bigger picture of the community and will provide a much needed space for O.I.ers to gather.

A quick intro to everything Tony...

Tony is the author of Disable Your Disability, a book about learning how to live the healthy life you deserve despite your physical limitations. He was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bones) and has endured 70+ fractures throughout his life. At the ripe young age of 42, he had to embrace his disability to save his life, so against all odds, pushed himself through an 8-month physical transformation that ended up being just as important mentally and emotionally.

Tony also loves music. He’s been an emcee and DJ since the mid-80’s and has DJ’d professionally since 1996 (and continues to do so!). He’s created and released independent hip hop music, and found most of his success when he and his wife, Teemaree, released 3 albums as Dynamite Jive in the early 2000’s.

In addition to all this, Tony has worked professionally in the television/film industry since 2001, and created his own company, Egg Sandwich Media, to work as a one-man-production-band; wearing the hat of Producer all the way to Video Editor.

He currently lives in Detroit, MI with his wife and they enjoy their empty-nester life in the desert.
