Having a problem with Pandora Radio playing on your iPhone if you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network? Here’s the solution!
PANDORA RADIO STOPPED PLAYING ON MY WIFE’S iPHONE
Pandora is a great online streaming service. They were one of the first to do it! Of course, others have come along (Spotify, Apple Music, I Heart Radio, etc.), but Pandora has consistently been one of the best in cultivating your “likes” and “dislikes” to give you the best radio listening experience tailored to you.
Recently, my wife, Teemaree, who is a huge Pandora fan and has been since the beginning, had an issue with playing Pandora on her iPhone app.
Here’s what happened;
1) She had a Subscription to Pandora Premium.
2) She had chosen to use “offline mode” so she could listen to music when not connected to Wi-Fi.
Everything was cool. Pandora gave her a couple of her stations on her phone and she was able to enjoy listening when she was out and about.
However, when time ran out on the subscription, that’s when things went wonky.
1) When she would open up the Pandora app and if she wasn’t connected to Wi-Fi, she couldn’t listen to music.
2) She knew it was because with the Premium subscription she was given “offline mode” and since the account switched back to “free” she simply had to shut off “offline mode”.
3) In the app, and on the desktop website, there is no option to turn off the “offline mode”.
C’MON PANDORA, WORK WITH ME!
So she was stuck not being able to play Pandora because it simply wouldn’t play if she was not connected to Wi-Fi and there was no way to turn off “offline mode” now that her subscription switched back to “free”.
She started searching for an answer online to no avail and even reached out to Pandora for help and they simply sent her some basic generic instructions; reinstall the app, log out and log back into your account, etc. No answers via Google and Pandora wasn’t any help either.
When she told me about it, I started searching and didn’t find any answers either.
Then it hit me.
Maybe it’s not a Pandora issue.
This could be something having to do with the phone.
She has an iPhone 6, and I had remembered an issue I had with another app not being able to access data unless I was connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Then it really hit me!
THE ACTUAL WAY TO FIX THE PANDORA OFFLINE MODE ISSUE
We have to make sure the phone is set up correctly so the app knows it can access data if it’s not connected to a Wi-Fi network.
So we simply had to check the settings on her phone. And here’s what we found:
(this is actually a pic of my settings, but it shows what the issue was)
See what happened?
The option to allow Pandora to use Cellular (not Wi-Fi) was turned OFF!
A simple switch in settings and she was GOOD TO GO!
She didn’t have to do anything else after this.
When she opened the app, she was able to play her radio stations!
Note: She never turned this off. Perhaps this was something that was automatically done by Pandora when she chose “offline mode”? We’re not sure. Every other app was switched to ON!
CHANGE THIS SETTING ON YOUR iPHONE
1) On your iPhone, go into SETTINGS.
2) Scroll down to CELLULAR
3) Once you in CELLULAR, scroll down and find Pandora. Make sure it’s switched to ON!
HOPE THIS HELPS OTHER PANDORA USERS
My wife suggested I write this article, and I’m also going to share it to Medium because I think it’s important for others to know. Especially since there was nothing else out there exploring, let alone solving, this issue.
